Coming up is an event which gives you the power to radically change the lives of many Chinese Christians. We take the fact that we have free access to Bibles for granted, but many Christians in China have no access to a Bible.
WALK4BIBLES is a fun, walk-a-thon event where each $7 you raise through sponsorship provides one Bible for a Bible-less Christian in China.
Where: Venue: Parramatta Park, Parramatta, NSW Date: Saturday 22 May 2010
Walk Length: The Walk 4 Bible events are approximately 7 or 14 kilometres but you can walk as long as you want!
Entry Fees: Free (but it would be great if you can get people to sponsor you as you walk, so that Bibles can get into the hands of Chinese Christians who cannot get a Bible).
Who Can Join: Anyone! You, your church, your Bible study group, your community, your community’s churches.
Who is Organising this Event?
Bible League is the major publisher of Scriptures translated by Wycliffe. Since 1962, Bible League has published over 80% of their translated Scriptures in more than 400 languages in over 60 countries. We are unified in our common aim of making God’s Word available to all peoples of the world.
Within the Christian community in many countries, there are not enough Bibles for every church member to have their own copy. Many cannot afford to buy one. Bible league supplies bibles free of charge to over 60 countries in 400 languages.
Starting this Sunday (25th of April), we will be beginning a training course called "Becoming a Contagious Christian." For many, sharing the gospel to their friends and family is a difficult and daunting thing, but we struggle with the fact that we are all called to make disciples and to proclaim the gospel.
The Becoming a Contagious Christian Course, which features teaching by Lee Strobel and Mark Mittleberg, seeks to encourage us, and show us how to share the gospel in ways that are non-threatening and natural.
The course runs for 6 weeks (with a break for a pentecost service) and starts this Sunday (25th of April) at 7:30pm.
It isn't too late to sign up for this course, so if you are interested, then please contact Chris on 0407 398294, or chris.hall@merrylandsbaptist.org.au
Youth Church, a part of our Encounter Youth Ministry, is a new ministry for MBC. It seeks to provide a safe, interactive, and relaxed way to study the Bible together of a Sunday morning, during the sermon time at Church.
Each fortnight, the Youth will go downstairs and will be encouraged to read a passage from the Bible and then discuss what they believe it means, and then to think of ways that it is relevant for them today. In discussing its relevance, we hope to see the Youth realise the need for our personal study of the Bible, as well as encouraging them to apply it to their lives.
With it being called "Youth Church" it means that it is completely focused upon, and aimed at, Youth.
I am excited for how this ministry has been received by the Youth so far, and I can see that this ministry has a lot of potential to grow and change as the youth grow and begin to realise the opportunities that exist for this ministry.
Since it is only every fortnight, it is expected that the Youth will then join in with the full Church Service with the rest of the congregation every other week so that they remain a key part of the community of MBC.
Please be in prayer for this ministry - that it will not only reach out to those already in our Church Community, but that others from the neighbourhood will be invited along and welcomed in.
Over the next two months, the Jesus. All About Life' campaign comes Merrylands Baptist Church.
‘Jesus. All about life’ is a massive communication campaign that aims to raise awareness of Jesus, right across NSW. Using the mass media and the internet, the campaign encourages people to thank Jesus for all the things we usually take for granted.
It has the support of 1500 churches state wide, who will hang banners outside to reinforce the advertised message, then hold events in September and October to introduce themselves to their local communities.
We have a huge range of events planned throughout the next two months: event such as Family days, picnics, huge youth concert, footy night with the Canterbury Bulldogs chaplain, and a ladies night, not to mention the many other events that will be run by other churches across NSW.
We will also be running a course which seeks to outline what the gospel is and to teach you some of the basics of the Christian faith, starting on Wednesday the 21st of October at 7:30pm.
We hope that you can join us at these events and this course as we seek to realise that God isn't some far off being that has no relevance for today, but instead really is all about life - that He is active in our lives today.
Throughout the month of June, our Sunday services, as well as our Discipleship Group studies, will be focused upon the "50:50 - local churches, global impact" series of studies that many churches across NSW are doing. It will challenge our thinking, and will show us five ways in which we can love, and be a blessing to, the world's poor people.
The services will include a number of special activities designed to assist us in understanding and embracing the message - Together we will see that we can have a global impact for good among the poor and needy in our world.
We hope that you can be a part of this series with us.
This weekend we will be remembering and celebrating Christ's death and resurrection. It is a great time to think about what Christ has done for you, as well as further reflecting upon what it meant for Christ to die on the cross.
Please join us for our Good Friday or Easter Sunday services as we celebrate this event:
Good Friday - 10th April - Join us at 9am where we will share in communion together at the cross, as well reflecting upon several passages.
Easter Sunday - 12th April - Join us at 10am (our normal time) where we will be celebrating Jesus' Resurrection from Luke 24:13-35, which will highlight how we can meet Christ today and will present Jesus' resurrection as eminently believable.
We hope that you will join us for one, or both, of these services.
Well this Sunday (the 22nd of March), Merrylands Baptist Church will be going into King Park to put on some games, activities and a bbq. It will be a great time to get together with people in the community and have fun. Best of all, it is all completely FREE.
So come along with your friends and family and enjoy a good afternoon together kicking a ball around, meeting people, enjoying a sausage sandwich, and taking part in the other free activities we have available.
Well a couple of weeks ago we had the opportunity to celebrate the joining of Jon and Megan in marriage.
It was great to see this couple make their vows to one another in the sight of family, friends, and God as they enter into this new part of their lives.
We wish them all the best as they continue this journey, and may God continue to bless them greatly.
Well this Sunday was an exciting time at our Church. Four people in our congregation (James, Jake, Lydia and Sadani) made a public declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ, and were baptised.
It was an excellent testimony to what God had been doing in their lives and was a great day.
We pray that God will continue to bless them and speak to them in their lives as they grow closer to Him.
Well this Saturday MBC hosted its annual Community Christmas Party and Carols service. It was a great time with many people visiting and getting involved with the various activities that were on offer, as well as participating in the carols singing that night.
Kids and Adults had fun getting involved in face painting, hair spraying, puzzles, a pinyata, games, 'Summo Wrestling', relaxing whilst sharing afternoon tea, and enjoying a very yummy bbq dinner.
We hope that you will be a part of this great event next year.
